Singer Dua Lipa and Donatella Versace collaborated on a new collection that is bound to elevate every sartorial sensibility.
May 26, 2023: At a time when fashion collaborations are at their peak, from artist Yayoi Kusama’s playful take on Louis Vuitton’s signature pieces to Beyonce and Balmain’s couture collection, Versace’s collaboration with singer Dua Lipa came as a natural but a tantalizing delight.
The fashion house had a key role in designing the majority of the singer’s red carpet looks throughout her career, contributing to their friendship and the collaboration. The brand has never before facilitated a collaborator to engage in the design process in this way, but that changes with this stunning summer collection which was showcased at Cannes.
For the La Vacanza collection, the duo dropped a total of 42 looks inspired by the Versace of 1990s. While most of the designs remained quintessentially Versace, Ms. Dua’s strong personality and creative vision brought a refreshing take on the silhouettes.
The singer, and now a wonderful stylist for this collection, drew inspiration from the Versace archives. The color palette featured myriads of pastel hues with lots of metallic shimmer. At the heart of the collection, archival prints such as butterflies and ladybugs were spotted while Gianni Versace’s designs were reimagined with a more contemporary and playful spin.
Signature Medusa and Greca jewelry animated with hand painted or crystal butterflies and ladybugs were featured. La Vacanza, which means vacation, will present the full Versace lifestyle, from perfectly cut tailoring and evening gowns, to bikinis and terry cotton beachwear.
About the powerful collaboration, Donatella Versace, says, “I love the summer and for me this collection celebrates the very best of that time of year. About her first collection, the singer shared, “Donatella and I bonded over our shared love of this time of year while making this collection. Digging through the archives we discovered we were drawn to a lot of the same references which was such an inspiring and fulfilling process. La Vacanza ranges from metallic miniskirts and sexy bikinis, to butterfly rings and printed pieces inspired by the Versace SS ’95 collection. There’s always an occasion to wear Versace, and I know I’ll be spending my days (and nights!) in La Vacanza all summer long.”
