After over a year, Tarun Tahiliani returned to Lakme Fashion Week to reveal his Spring Summer collection and leave the viewers in complete awe.
March 16, 2023: Indian designer Tarun Tahiliani doesn’t need any introduction, and neither does his graceful aesthetic. The designer’s clothes are easily distinguishable with his signature drapes that embrace modern India while celebrating its traditional roots.
Aimed at bringing a soft but powerful look, Mr. Tahiliani’s Spring Summer 2023 collection was presented in a captivating combination of structured draping with traditional embroidery and non-traditional sprays, settings, and colors. Paying tribute to the incredible legacy of our Indian craft heritage, this collection essays tradition in Mr. Tahiliani’s inimitable ‘India Modern’ style.
Speaking about the collection, Mr. Tahiliani, says, “The collection is all about the drape, which is rooted firmly in the Indian identity. As it evolves into a more global instrument of sculpting fashion narratives, I now try through the structured drape, to preserve our heritage on a more cerebral level. The Indian dialogue of drape, cultural identity…is a fine form developing over millennia. We are simplifying it for the contemporary context, without relying on surface ornamentation. Our spring/summer collection speaks to this modernity - traditional drape suspended in time.”
There is nothing more beautiful than a woman who is unapologetically herself and that's what the designer has conceptualized in his luxury pret collection. Like the soft spirit and flowing of water, the airy and asymmetrical drape envelops, surrounds, fills and caresses the wearer with each fold taking form intuitively and playing with the hemline of desire.
The collection looks at ‘lightness’, which has influenced the use of iridescent and pastels hues. Stealing the spotlight, “The Night Manager” star, Shobita Dhulipala, appeared in a striking red gown. The stunning saree gown was in color contrast to the rest of the collection's calm palette, but had the same draping pattern around the waist.
