51, Buckingham Gate, Taj Suites & Residences, London, launches Cinema Suite created by Sabyasachi Mukherjee
November 9, 2012: 51 Buckingham Gate, Taj Suites and Residences, London has unveiled its new Cinema Suite created by Indian designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee. The newly appointed Indian Tourist Minister and ‘megastar’ cinema actor Dr K Chiranjeevi officially opened the grand suite.
The Cinema Suite takes its inspiration from motion pictures across the world. The Suite travels across diverse cultures and eras and different moods and genres. Inspired most notably by 1940s and 1950s Hollywood as well as the Indian cinema era of 1950s, guests will find reference to Francis Ford Coppola in the study, The Stepford Wives in the kitchen, sense the golden Hollywood era of Rita Hayworth and Marilyn Monroe in the Red Lipstick Room before travelling via the Orient Express hallway to the Indian Cinema Room. Here, design draws from the lives of renowned Indian artists such as Guru Dutt and Merchant Ivory and classic Indian narratives like Sahib, Biwi Aur Ghulam and Heat & Dust.
From the leather Chesterfield to the handmade antique furnishing, art and rugs to taxidermy, the Suite is a celebration of global culture. Almost everything is handmade and celebrates the art and crafts movement across the globe. Rare Bollywood film prints, remarkable history books, vintage mirrors and a myriad of portraits and drawings lend an authentic feel to the space. Each wall is a work of art in itself with curios collected from over 32 different cultures. Sumptuous silk drapery meets magnificent oak flooring, while priceless antique furniture displays ornaments such as rare Chinese porcelain, Bhutanese frames and 1920s embroidered Indian lamps.
The Suite includes an 85 inches plasma TV with a state of the art home theatre system created by Steinway Lyngdorf. With a preloaded selection of over 300 movies and music, this is a fully immersive cinematic experience. Master chefs bring gastronomy that is a celebration of global cuisine while the ensuite bar adds to this magical atmosphere. The Suite is an acknowledgement of the fact that luxury cannot be measured by money. It is an experience of time well spent amidst films, art, culture and some great company.
The Cinema Suite is the second designer collaboration for 51 Buckingham Gate, following the launch of the world’s first Jaguar Suite which was conceived by Jaguar Design Director, Ian Callum and opened at the hotel in autumn 2011
