Taj Bengal celebrates 25 years

November 13, 2014: Built on close to three acres in the prime residential district of Kolkata, Taj Bengal opened on October 10, 1989, and is celebrating its 25th anniversary.

When asked about his favorite Taj property, Mr. Ratan Tata, Chairman, Emeritus of Tata Sons - the holding company of the Tata group had said, “I’m not saying this hypocritically but for many years my favourite Taj hotel was the Taj Bengal.”

Since its opening, the hotel has serviced dignitaries such as Hillary Clinton, Dalai Lama, Vikram Seth, Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen, Jeffrey Archer, Prince Andrew, The Duchess of Kent, John Prescott- Deputy PM of England, Amitabh Bachchan, Michelangelo Antonioni, Sachin Tendulkar, and Sonia Gandhi.

Taj Bengal is decorated richly with heritage art and sculpture, capturing the essence of Bengal through its iconic terracotta musician statues in the atrium lobby, and the terracotta panels on the floors.

To mark 25 years, the hotel has released a special private label red wine with wine maker Fratelli and a special exclusive label champagne with Drappier. Several 25th anniversary promotions are being held exclusively for guests.
