Having struggled with chronic acne, dull and dry skin for years, I was looking to try out some holistic concoctions that would reverse the adverse effect of years of constant chemical afflictions and give my skin some much needed natural respite. While there are a host of organic products available now, ranging from Ayurvedic skin care solutions to herbal teas, it is imperative to separate the result oriented ones from the gimmicks. SoulTree stands out from the crowd here with a trailblazing focal ingredient – Hemp Oil.
A vanguard natural product, Hemp oil is harvested by cold-pressing naturally grown hemp seeds and is apt for most skin types due to its unique ability to moisturize without clogging your pores. It can balance out oily skin, hydrating it and regulating oil production. Dryness can also cause your skin to overproduce oil, which in turn, can stimulate acne. I evaluated the efficacy of the SoulTree range by the tenacity with which the afflictions ceased to occur. In my case the afflictions being occasional break outs, dryness, mild discolouration and redness.

I used their 3 hero products for two months – The Hemp Treat and Nourish Youth Day Cream, The Hemp Ayurvedic Treatment Facial Oil for Youthful Radiance and the Organic Hemp Seed Oil. All 3 are non-sticky, hydrating, and perfect for grease-free mornings. The tiny progressions these products brought to my skin has me suddenly fixated on beauty and skincare. They successfully hit the proverbial jackpot of improving moisture retention while strengthening the skin’s barrier and repairing it from environmental aggressors.
Hemp Treat and Nourish Youth Day Cream – It is a lightly textured day cream, quickly absorbent and moisturising. Its active ingredient Turmeric helps manage and prevent acne and acne scars. Ashwagandha lends potent anti-inflammatory benefits while regulating the production of skin’s natural sebum. Since my skin is naturally dry, I had to add another layer of moisturiser to ensure it remained supple all day long, visible results were slower with the day cream but it can be used as a natural make-up base as well as an SPF alternative.
The Hemp Ayurvedic Treatment Facial Oil – The easy-absorb formula of the facial oil nourishes and smoothens an uneven texture. It is a blend of potent essential oils - Almond, Olive and Sunflower Seed oil (apart from Hemp seed oil) which enhances the skin’s elasticity and helps prevent and reduce early signs of ageing. I used it as a leave-in overnight oil and saw an improvement in my skin quality after about 2 weeks of religious application. Massaging inwards and outwards, it helped balance my uneven skin tone and worked as a shield against environmental damage.

The Organic Hemp Seed Oil – This was the most effective product from the range, the cold pressed oil can be applied to the face and hair for a deeply hydrating effect. This oil is enriched with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, and has a luscious texture that absorbed well into my skin and started showing results within a few days of application. When applied in hair, the oil promotes hair growth. It deeply nourished and repaired my damaged hair, and the effect was almost similar to a salon spa. My hair was soft, voluminous and shiny after 3 overnight applications. I massaged it onto my face day and night and this multipurpose product left my skin and hair feeling dewy, non-greasy and moisturised.
In Ayurvedic medication, Hemp seed oil is particularly beneficial for Vata (the elements of space and air) and helps balance Pitta (the elements of fire and water). Its benefits are woven into all notable indigenous Ayurvedic texts, like Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita, and Shargandhara Samhita. Its high and balanced essential fatty acid content (omegas 3 and 6) makes it an ideal ingredient in body care products. It also contains the very rare gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), with research showing it also has potential as a natural sunscreen product, working as a broad-spectrum UV skin protector.
