Sotheby's London to showcase an exquisite private collection of jewelry drawings
February 9, 2016: Luxury auction house, Sotheby’s London, is opening to the public an extensive private collection of previously unseen jewelry sketches from some of the most renowned labels, coupled with a showcase of rare adornments and vintage attires.
Entitled “Masters of Design,” the exhibition boasts over 3,000 drawings of gold and silver designs, signed by some of the world’s most famed labels. It will feature preparatory works for Cartier’s brooches for A. Vanderbilt and Van Cleef & Arpels’s Art Deco line among others.
Encompassing nearly two century of exquisite bijoux sketches, “Masters of Design” will also reveal the major artistic movements, political and social changes that shaped the evolution of ornamentation from the 1890 onward.
From the Belle Epoque to Art Deco to 1950s’ glamor, the aesthetics of disparate ages will glimmer not only from the drawings, possessed by a European private collector. Jewels from Sotheby’s Geneva May sale as well as vintage clothes handpicked by fashion expert William Banks-Blaney will further recreate the feel and style of the past decades.
“Masters of Design” will run from February 18 to March 8, 2016 in London.
