Sotheby's Hong Kong presents a private single-owner collection of Important Wines and Watches
March 5, 2015: On April 4 and 7, Sotheby’s Hong Kong will offer Wines and Watches from the collection of a single owner for auction. Scheduled to take place at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, the collection comprises more than 460 lots of wines to be offered on April 4 (est. US$5.2 – 7.2 million) and over 100 lots of watches to be auctioned on April 7 (est. US$2.3 – 3.5 million).
The wine collection includes top-quality Burgundy from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC) and Henri Jayer, to finest Bordeaux from Château Pétrus and Château Lafite. Spectacular Champagnes from Krug, Dom Pérignon and Bollinger include some of the rarest vintages from the region, while Screaming Eagle, Harlan Estate and Dalla Valle Maya are sure to excite collectors. Highly desirable Super Tuscans from Sassicaia and Masseto round out this collection.
Top burgundies from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC) – the top-selling wine producer worldwide in Sotheby’s Wine’s Ranking 2014 – is the highlight of the collection. Close to 1,000 bottles from DRC (819 bottles, 62 magnums, 3 jeroboams and 2 methuselahs), including 16 vintages of Romanée-Conti (1966 – 2007), 21 vintages of La Tâche (1971 – 2009), 13 vintages of Richebourg (1971 – 2011), 12 vintages of Grands Échezeaux (1985 – 2009) and 14 vintages of Montrachet (1986 – 2009) are on offer. Another Burgundy highlight is a group of 178 bottles and 19 magnums from the late Henri Jayer (in multiple lots), estimated at US$173,000 – 237,000. Close to 300 bottles of Château Pétrus (259 bottles, 10 magnums and 2 imperials) spanning 24 vintages (1964 – 2005) highlighting some of the best vintages of recent decades – 1985, 1995, 2000 and 2005 – will lead the sale’s Bordeaux selection. Two 12-bottle cases of Château Lafite 1995 will also be on offer.
Also featured in the sale is an impressive offering of top Champagne. 341 bottles and 46 magnums of Krug spanning 18 vintages (1979 – 1996) of the last century – including 1979, 1985, 1986, 1995 and 1996 – will go under the hammer. 397 bottles and 16 magnums of Dom Pérignon from the vintages of 1966 to 2000, including the 1990 vintage of Dom Pérignon Oenothèque and the 2000 vintage of Dom Pérignon Rosé will also be offered.
Meticulously curated over the past decade, the collection of modern watches are a portrayal of a distinctive taste for a bold and masculine aesthetic. The selection comprises more than 100 timepieces, including prestigious sports watches, ranging from simple time-only Rolex to rare limited editions by other renowned makers, such as a Jaeger-LeCoultre Gyrotourbillon 1 and an Audemars Piguet Carbon Concept. Other highlights include the Panerai “Lo Scienziato” skeletonised tourbillon and over 50 other special limited edition Audemars Piguet Royal Oak wristwatches. A total of 108 watches estimated at US$2.3 – 3.5 million will be offered.
