Seema Gujral’s new bridal collection “Portraits” is a tribute to Indian royalty

Inspired by Indian Maharanis, the collection redefines age-old Indian royalty for the modern bride

October 5, 2020: Couturier Seema Gujral’s latest bridal collection is an effort to showcase the vintage glamour of Indian royalty. Innately regal and inspired by the Maharanis of yore, the collection is a blend of royal charm coupled with modern sensibility, driven by a holistic vision of when luxury meets comfort.

The unique collection comprises 12 ensembles for the modern bride, heavily influenced by the heritage imagery of royal couture, and the architecture of Rajasthan’s forts and palaces. The designs in this collection are Indian in sensibility yet international in quality and finesse. The old world charm merges seamlessly with nouveau Indian grandeur through fine, intricate embroidery, stylizing and attention to detail. Decoding the evolving phases of the Maharanis where craftsmanship remained timeless, the collection features two forms of design - Ghararas and Lehengas, each one unique with their subtle detailing.

The signature of this collection is the three-dimensional floral embroideries using varied fabrics, embroidery materials and a combination of various embroidery techniques along with traditional Rajasthani mirror work and soft multicoloured sequins. The lavishness of the garments is also brought alive with some delicate gotta patti work.

The colour palette is an eclectic mix of softer hues for the day occasions such as ivory, beige, yellow and deep mustards, rusts, and reds for the night. For occasions that span through the day, a glamorous light gold silhouette embroidered with gota patti work is accented with crystals and pearls.

The collection also features trending elements like double dupattas and embroidered belts which bring a modern element to essentially traditional Indian festive wear. Every piece is truly artisanal and handwoven.
