Rolls-Royce Dawn exits production, making way for a new electric Spectre

Despite being the top selling convertible, Rolls-Royce Dawn has been phased out of production.

May 11, 2023: Legendary carmaker, Rolls-Royce, has announced the discontinuance of its bestselling convertible by 2023, bringing the era of Dawn to a magnificent end. It was, so far, the coolest Rolls convertible you have ever seen.

Unlike other models by the marquee, the car was created for the younger clientele. Inspired by the 1950s Silver Dawn, Dawn was truly a bespoke model, with a ‘wake channel’ on the bonnet and unique body panels and tyres. In fact, it wasn’t just a gorgeous motor car, but a classic manifestation of the romance and glamor showcased in 1960s film, La Dolce Vita.

Just like the fashion of the 1950s and 1960s that emphasized the wearer’s shape by eliminating extraneous lines and textures, Dawn’s clean, unadorned design of the coachwork takes the passengers for a cozy, private and stylish cabin experience. The Dawn is a full four-seater convertible with comfortable, individual seating for all occupants.

With its chic minimal lines, the swift roof mechanism, the Dawn featured a near-silent 6.6-litre, 563bhp twin-turbo V12 engine. In 2017, Rolls-Royce introduced a new variant of Dawn, Black Badge, with more power and amazing speed. While appealing to the rebel spirit that attracts so many to this noire expression of the brand, Black Badge Dawn created its own singular place in the Rolls-Royce Pantheon – one characterized by the romance and seduction of a city at night.

For a greener and more economic world, most of the automotive brands are opting for EVs. Electric vehicles are the present, and soon, the entire automotive industry will turn completely electric. In a very obvious move to scale up the production of electric cars, Rolls-Royce brings an end to this sleek motor car that fueled the most glamorous era of the brand.

Torsten Müller-Ötvös, CEO of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, said, “In reviving the Dawn nameplate, Rolls-Royce reinvigorated something much more than a motor car – like the glamourous convertible it drew inspiration from, the contemporary Dawn has come to characterize a modern expression of ‘la dolce vita’; a way of living that embraces the beauty and richness of life. Dawn truly reflects the joy of good company, the thrill of adventure and the peace of quiet reflection. Indeed, this motor car is a testament to the modern art of living, recalling ‘la dolce vita’ spirit in every detail. As production of Dawn draws to a close, we can reflect on an extraordinary chapter in the marque’s history. This beautiful motor car perfectly embodies contemporary luxury while celebrating the marque’s founding principles and heritage.”

The company is all set to introduce its new luxury EV to the world. The two-door coupé, Spectre EV will be launched in the fourth quarter of 2023.
