Sunglasses are not just for when you are under the sun. Fendi and Rob Raco prove they are an all-day accessory

Fendi is taking eyewear seriously. After Gentle Monster, the Italian luxury label has announced Canadian-Italian Rob Raco as its men’s eyewear ambassador, with a kaleidoscopic video campaign.
Born Robert Joseph Raco, the actor, musician and model is the current favorite for his role in teen-series Riverdale (based on the much-loved Archie comics). Apart from that, he is also the co-owner of Essex County Drums – a custom drums manufacturer – a business he started with his father.
Mr. Raco’s journey with Fendi starts with the brand’s Spring/Summer 2019 eyewear collection and the new FENDI FIEND sunglasses. These new sunglasses merge art influences, future-inspired design and savoir-faire, taking the contemporary trends to the next level.
The narrow metal shape with ultra-flat front and extra-light surface convey a retro-futuristic feeling, enhanced by the special frame construction defined by a thin metal thread running around and over the lenses, for maximum lightness. The iconic triangular design of the temples is revamped with tone-on-tone or contrasting color end-tip, adding a subtle twist to the design. The color palette includes the distinctive hues of the FENDI Spring/Summer 2019 Men’s Collection: gold/red with pink lenses, gold/brown with brown lenses, black with grey lenses.
Presenting these sunglasses in a innovative way, the video featuring Mr. Raco says that sunglasses can be worn at all times of the day. Leading the viewer throughout the day, the film shows Mr. Raco in an indoor living space, sitting on a cocooning chaise long, and in a photographic set-up. The change of time is marked by a new pair of sunglasses, beginning at sunrise, passing through the morning, afternoon until sunset. As time passes, new shades of colours – from dark blue to orange – and vivid flashes of light enter the scene, accompanying the protagonist during the day, lived through the lenses of the new FENDI Spring/Summer 2019 Men’s Eyewear Collection.
