Panerai revives Radiomir Egiziano 60 mm, Titanium

The Officine Panerai brings back to life a legendary model from its history - the Egiziano (Egyptian) - a model developed by Panerai in the 1950s and supplied to the underwater commandos of the Egyptian Navy in response to its request for an “indestructible watch”.

The 60mm round case links up with large rounded lugs and is made in brushed titanium. This has allowed for a remarkable reduction in the total weight of the body. Its full back plate, attached by six screws like the original, is engraved with the inscription Officine Panerai Firenze and a “pig” - as the human torpedo deployed in the exploits of the Italian underwater commandos during the Second World War was known - as well as the model identification number and serial number.

Waterproof up to 100 metres, the case features a wide, convex, bi-directional rotating bezel with embossed index markers, like the original 50s model. The dial has the classic Officine Panerai style: a black sandwich dial with Arabic numbers and hour markers perforated into the upper plate, while the lower plate is coated with an ecru colour luminous material. Unlike the original, however, this Egyptian comes with a seconds reset device which returns the seconds hand to zero when the winding crown is pulled out, thus allowing the watch to be set accurately. At 3.00 is a small dial identical to that in the vintage models, containing both the power reserve indicator, as well as a reference to the patent obtained by Panerai for its innovative crown protection device.

The movement of the new Egyptian is P. 2002/7 calibre which is made of 191 components and has three spring barrels to ensure a power reserve of eight days. Made in a special limited edition of just 500 units, this watch comes with a leather strap, stitched to a large trapezoidal buckle, also in brushed titanium and personalised with the engraved inscription GPF (Giovanni Panerai & Figli – the same inscription used at the time). An extra strap of the same dimension as the original, is also included, slightly smaller in size, as well as a small tool for carrying out the replacement.
