Physio Floating Massage at Schloss Elmau Luxury Spa Retreat & Cultural Hideaway, Germany

Originally developed in 1999 for a patient who could not lie on his stomach on a table for massage, the Physio floating massage is much more than your typical spa treatment. With the success of the treatment, the resort developed different techniques to massage not only the back and the big joints (shoulders and hips), but also hands, feet, legs and neck - all while in the water.

The treatment starts with massaging the back and shoulders, then proceeding to the feet and legs, using large movements for the hips, then back to arms and shoulders along with the neck, then the back and the hips and finishing with water waves underneath the guests.

Lasting between 30 to 45 minutes, the treatment is priced at €65-95 approximately, and it can be booked with two guests and two therapists in one large pool with 35 degree warm salt water.

The Leg School at Capri Palace Hotel and Spa, Italy
A series of complementary treatments that address vascular disorders of the lower limbs and cellulite, this unique treatment is formulated and patented by Prof. Francesco Canonaco, and consists of the application of rich active substances and vaso-active elements, increasing the elasticity of the skin and preventing the formation of stretch marks.

The Leg School fights poor blood circulation, promotes lymphatic drainage and reduces cellulite and swelling. The treatment consists of the application of medical cold mud (20 min), then the application of cold medical bandages (15 min), followed by Kneipp vascular therapy (15 min) in shallow tanks of medicated water at different temperatures (18°C and 38°C/64°F and 100°F), continuing to a cold stone (20 min) leg massage with iced marble stones, and finishing with a Press therapy (30 min) and manual lymph-drainage (50 or 75 min).

The Phases of the Moon signature treatment series at Capella Singapore
Who thought the moods of a Moon could be captured in a spa series? Auriga Spa at Capella Singapore obviously thought it possible. And behold, their signature treatments have been designed to reflect the lunar cycle, each being dedicated to a particular phase of the Moon - New, Full, Waxing and Waning - and is only offered when the treatment corresponds to the Moon’s particular stage!

In the New Moon treatment, feet are anointed with oils of Juniper, Rosemary and Fennel. Then, a Seaweed and Eucalyptus salt scrub is followed by a Seaweed wrap. The treatment concludes with full body Rosemary, Juniper and Fennel oil massage and a stimulating tonic. (120 minutes, $290)

To begin the Waxing Moon treatment, an oil will be worked into the feet using pressure point techniques. Then, a salt scrub exfoliates the body and a mud wrap nourishes the skin. The treatment concludes with a nurturing Honey & Jasmine facial mask and a gentle aromatherapy body massage. To further enhance the treatment, guests are offered a nurturing tonic and supplements. (120 minutes, $290)

Associating the benefits of a rose with the Full Moon treatment, it begins with an anointment of the feet with Rose oil. The body is then exfoliated with Rose oil-infused salt. A warming Rose wrap nourishes the body with minerals and is then followed by a relaxing massage and lymphatic facial using Rose crystals and acupressure point facial massage. Herbal tea is served at the end of the treatment along with a tonic and supplements. (180 minutes, $440)

Vitality Pool at Auriga Spa, Capella Singapore

Cleansing being the ultimate meaning of the Waning Moon treatment, it begins with a pressure point massage of the feet using detoxifying oils. The body is then exfoliated using silk garshana gloves, creating heat deep within the muscles while smoothening the skin. A purifying seaweed wrap is followed by a cleansing massage using lymph techniques that further stimulates the elimination of toxins, and a facial massage. The treatment concludes with a tonic and detox supplements specially designed to deeply cleanse the system. (180 minutes, $440)

These five treatments are some of the most unique spa treatments offered around the world. No matter what they entail, these treatments keep the idea of relaxation fascinating, offering some new ways to escape the pressures of everyday life and foster rejuvenation.
