Obeetee and Tarun Tahiliani present 'From India with Pride' at ABC Carpet and Home, New York

Obeetee and Tarun Tahiliani in ABC Carpet & HomeMarch 1, 2017: Indian carpet brand Obeetee, who recently collaborated with Indian designer Tarun Tahiliani to create one-of-a-kind collection of carpets, has now introduced the collection at ABC Carpet & Home in New York.

Commingling the traditional and contemporary, Mr Tahiliani’s carpets follow three inspirations.

The Antique Frames Collection portrays history and the romance of royals using delicate Mughal designs. The repeated patterns of floral motifs, Persian scripts and tiny prancing birds and bees against a backdrop of royal blues, rich burgundy and dusky green with hints of gold highlights create this exquisite collection that aims to give a home a rich sample of India’s glorious arts memoir.

The Chikankari Collection exemplifies that time honored art of chikan embroidery from Lucknow, where fine thread work is used to create delicate florals and motifs on fine muslin fabrics.

For the carpets, Mr Tahiliani has deconstructed the motifs and set them against contemporary geometric lines and distressed, layered borders, combining age with modern India.

Using layering and texturing created the Abstract Arts Collection, which translated the carpets into intricate and sophisticated expressions of vivid colours, styles and strokes. Devoid of defined motifs, these carpets encourage free-flowing patterns that are pleasing to the eye.
