Much like Adam Sandler in the movie ‘Don’t Mess with Zohan’ who wants to make hair “silky smooth”, Moroccanoil does the same job, but in more luxurious settings!
December is here, finally, with the cool breeze and the festive Christmas spirit all around. While that will end around the end of this month, sad winter woes are here to stay for a while longer. Tackling the dry and frizzy tress troubles, Moroccanoil makes its entry into the Indian market at a perfect time to save the day, or hair.
A salon that sports a chic yet homely ambience, Renee Melek may be a tough cookie to locate. Situated in the by lanes of Bandra in Mumbai, this salon has all the makings of your favourite stylist as it offers the three S - service, smile and skill.
Wanting to design a salon which would appeal to her Indian and expatriate clients, Renee Melek, art director, Renee Melek Salon, is an ardent fan of vintage decor which is all so evident once you set foot inside the doors. Walking into the salon, the vintage style fuses effortlessly with a blend of modern day fittings. Wrought iron and wooden carved furniture give the place a warm look while the carved mirrors add an artistic touch as it complements the art of hairstyling. With a powerful feminist touch, you will find it hard to resist the charm that this place offers in abundance.
My main reason to visit, it is one of the places that offer Moroccanoil treatments. Having used and loved them, I asked Ms Melek as to why she chose to keep Moroccanoil. "I have found Moroccanoil products to be one among the best. The reason why I chose it in the first place is that all my expat clients told me about this wonder-working product two years before it entered India. I was thrilled to know that it was coming to India. All my clients who come from different parts of the world love Moroccanoil and choose it over other brands that are available abroad. That itself tells me how good a brand it is," she said.
But a brand with international origins needs training because perfection is what lends to an experience at the end of the road. With a staff that is professionally trained by the Moroccanoil trainer in the salon, I had an opportunity to understand the dedication that is needed to network and support an international brand in India. Complete theoretical knowledge about different types of hair and their needs, along with their application and communication is what makes Ms Melek’s team an all rounder.
Tresses to the rescue
Taking my seat in front of the mirror, I waited as Ms Melek and her colleague analysed my hair deciding what products would be best suited. Sharing my woes of oily hair with them, it was a unanimous decision for them to introduce the Moroccanoil Oily Scalp treatment to me. An argan oil‐infused salon and spa treatment that uses a unique blend of essential oils to balance and soothe the scalp and reduce oil production, in five minutes I was made to understand that the product is formulated with organic ginger oil, which helps stimulate the scalp and increase circulation, while regulating sebum production! Quite excited to try anything that would save my oily scalp, I crossed my fingers and hoped that the advance formula’s astringent and purifying properties would leave my hair balanced, healthy‐looking and lustrous.
Separating my hair into sections, the therapist applied a drop of the treatment in every section and massaged for about 10 minutes till the product had penetrated through. Combing my hair so as to spread the product evenly, I was lead to the basin to rinse my hair with cool water. Post this, I was told that the Moroccanoil Hydrating Shampoo and Moroccanoil Hydrating Conditioner would work perfectly well, being specially designed to help prevent dryness and dehydration, maintain hair’s elasticity, and keep strands looking healthy, smooth and shiny. As she massaged the shampoo through my wet hair to create lather, I appreciated the fresh scent that accompanied the hydrating procedure.
Repairing the crown
Once my shampoo was done, the therapist applied the Moroccanoil Restorative Hair Mask which would help nourish my coloured hair. Said to deeply transform chemically and environmentally damaged hair, I loved that the smell of this mask was mild, yet so appealing. Leaving it on for about 10 minutes, the main purpose was for it to penetrate deep into the hair shaft to help reconstruct, strengthen and rebuild my strands quickly. Also, since the mask requires no heat, it makes it easier to appreciate the keratin enriched and argan infused blend and it's no fuss application.
Once washed out, the final step consisted of the Moroccanoil Hydrating Conditioner. Gently squeezing the excess water from the hair, she applied a small amount of the Conditioner to the hair, starting from the roots and moving down to the ends. Though I personally prefer just conditioning the lengths, it doesn't hurt to pamper the roots once in a while. Once this too was washed out, I was left with stunning hair that begged to be touched! The products delivered as promised - it hydrated and repaired my tired tresses and restored elasticity and brilliant, natural-looking shine. Hair becomes soft, manageable, smooth and silky.

Settling down in front of the mirror again, she worked some Moroccanoil into my tresses used to fortify the hair and improve elasticity and shielding against harmful environmental stressors. Once in, it took less than three seconds to notice that it provided a luxurious, noticeable shine to hair without any residue and literally reduces the blow-drying time to half! Providing the perfect foundation for hair styling, Ms Melek herself blow-dried and styled my hair as I grinned with glee at my refreshed hair.
The key to your locks
So how does one get locks like Rapunzel? It's a labour of love with perfect hair care and specialised products that will suit your hair. A good option for most, Moroccanoil offers innovative, easy-to-use, performance-driven formulas that dramatically transform all hair types resulting in beautiful and healthy hair!
Ms Melek also mentioned that majority of the clients are well aware of the products and if you aren't, it's time you make the connection. "Most of them can't part with the Moroccanoil treatment oil. Most of my clients find it worth an investment as they don't need to do much to take care of the health of the hair once they regularly use the shampoo, conditioner and the oil," she said.
Starting off originally with oil-infused hair products, Moroccanoil has quickly become a runaway hit among fashion and beauty insiders, and has generated a cult following among top stylists and their A-list celebrity clients with good reason. Not only the who's who, a lot of Indians (as well as internationals) have started appreciating and swearing by the brands products. Famed for their weightless, residue-free quality, Moroccanoil’s extensive line of luxury hair care products addresses the needs of all hair types and features a proprietary advanced blend of the finest ingredients to deliver optimal performance and dramatic results.
