In the words of Riccardo Tisci, “This presentation is all about the power and the beauty of self-expression and about escaping and coming together as one to celebrate our creativity.”
July 7, 2021: Ever since Chief Creative Officer Riccardo Tisci joined Burberry, this is his boldest, most off-the-beaten-path collection for the historically traditional brand yet.
Huge swathes of sand are juxtaposed against the minimal and raw urban form of the spectacular Millennium Mills in Royal Victoria Docks East London. The collection challenges traditional codes in an unsparing picture of free expression. Faux piercing accessories and black leather halter neck vests, coats, and briefs have been used to represent young exploration and sensuality. With sleeveless non-conforming forms and graphic patterns, tailoring and outerwear are also reworked.
Mr. Tisci’s collection Burberry's long-standing support of community spirit and freedom of expression.
In new non-conforming designs, outerwear basics are brought to the forefront. The classic trench coat is redesigned with upholstered cuffed sleeves and a stand collar. Cotton twill automobile jackets are designed without collars and include buttoned shoulders, resulting in a boat-neck appearance. With rib-knit trims and press-stud straps, sleeveless leather bomber jackets are back again.
The title 'Universal Passport' is imprinted over sleeveless mesh T-shirts and cotton shirts throughout the collection, reinforcing the idea of connectivity and exploration.
Sleeveless shirts, shorts, and trousers with a plethora of strap details, complement top-stitched bib-front pants, and hoods with oversized embellishments. Cargo straps are positioned in symmetrical rows on front of the coats. The undulating forms of camouflage are evoked by creative curved prints on sheer T-shirts, mesh vests, and cotton shirts.
In womenswear collection, a series of metallic finishes is mixed with the season's translucent materials. A sequined transparent trench is supplemented with zebra-print embellishments. Mirrored square sequins are affixed to bikinis with a wrap-around strap feature, worn beneath cargo pants and a globe graphical theme quilted gilet.
Fresh quilted checkered leather handbags, including a backpack and crossbody bag with the Thomas Burberry Monogram, are now accessible. Also, the simple leather messenger handbags in beige or monochromatic with whipstitch straps embossed with the 'Universal Passport' print.
Coming to the accessories, the collection includes exaggerated flaps on an oversized padded baseball cap. Solid, transparent, glossy, and tortoiseshell hoop jewelry has a punk vibe. Headbands made of chunky knit are worn over leather and cotton-canvas baseball caps. New eyewear styles include translucent orange, pink, or tortoiseshell acetate navigator sunglasses, as well as orange or black ski goggles.
