When shiny rose gold packaging meets MAC (and for some the glamourous singer Rihanna) you know you will at least pick up the product to admire its sheer aesthetic value. RiRi hearts MAC, a Holiday 2013 collection, is all set to win hearts over the world, but how does it fare with the Indian market?
To start with, its shiny packing will attract every Indian out there, come on, admit how much you love bling. Rihanna's signature adds personalisation and a sense of brand value to the product while still keeping it MAC friendly. Coming to the product, MAC RiRi Woo Lipstick is described as a “matte cool red [with a retro matte finish].” It’s a deep, medium-dark red with strong cool undertones and a matte finish. MAC Ruby Woo is absolutely similar – it’s very, very sisterly. But chances are that you will miss the difference and probably keep both in your makeup stash - probably one for the colour and for the packaging and safekeeping.
So what's all the fuss about? The colour, as you know, is supposed to be a cool red, but on my skin it somewhat turns up as a happy deep red, if you know what I mean. To make it more day friendly, I applied a stroke of MAC’s nude lipgloss over it and the result is mind blowing! Having perpetually dry lips even in these simple Mumbai winters, I always feel the need to coat my lips with a balm prior to any lip colour. The retro matte finish is drier and stiff, with the type of texture that asks sheer concentration and precision from you, otherwise you may land up looking like a late celebration to Halloween. Use a brush or practice yoga for a few days before you pucker up for this shade.
The color is incredibly pigmented though. One swipe and you will see fully opaque colour coverage. RiRi Woo has Rihanna’s signature etched around the side of the lipstick itself and housed in the rose gold container so the connection between you and Rihanna is made after the first swipe! But there was nothing on the packaging or exterior packaging. It wore for about six hours, but did start to feel dry after four, so I'd recommended a strong balm below. So well, we are under Rihanna's umbrella, for now.
