The French fashion house collaborated with Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama to rekindle the magic of dots and infinity in its exclusive collaboration.
April 14, 2023: Back in 2012, Louis Vuitton and the avant garde artist Yayoi Kusama’s collaboration created a sensation around the fashion world with the artist’s signature vivid dots featured on every emblematic item by Louis Vuitton. Not to mention the iconic Louis Vuitton trunk covered with the artist’s hand painted signature polka dot prints.
Now almost after a decade, the fashion house collaborates with the Japanese artist to recreate the magic. The artist’s bold and playful motifs feature in almost 400 emblematic pieces of the maison. Drop 2 of this artistic collaboration explores, in even greater breadth, the graphic and joyful motifs and motivations of Ms. Kusama.
The collection conveys the endless energy and colorful creative vision of the artist through her interpretation of pumpkin to flowers, faces to infinity dots and nets.
The cascading motifs, their qualities, and the notion of infinity are mirrored in the collections’ expansiveness, sweeping up the iconic pieces of the maison and transforming them into vivid items. The collection reflects Ms. Kusama’s process and themes while testing and furthering the limits of Louis Vuitton’s savoir faire.
One of the most meaningful and comforting motifs for the artist, pumpkin, appears in a vibrant and joyful print and covers many of the brand's iconic pieces. It is almost a talismanic symbol for the artist.
Ms. Kusama has given a psychedelic shape to genial flowers. Faces, inspired from the artist’s “My Eternal Soul” series of paintings, are featured on stonewashed light denim fabric. The hypnotic infinity dots bring a whimsical and playful spirit to the accessories and silhouettes.
