Louis Vuitton Cruise 2018 collection debuts in Japan
June 1, 2017: Louis Vuitton held its cruise 2018 show in Kyoto, Japan at the Miho Museum. In a land that reconciles the mastery of mother nature and a profound respect for her, the Miho Museum, a symbol of heaven on earth, is the perfect venue where modernity and natural surroundings meet. Actresses Rila Fukushima and Donna Bae were a part of the show.
The collection intends to showcase the country’s history by referencing traditional Japanese elements. Garments allude to samurai, inked landscapes, ceremonial dress and the somber spirit of Kitano.
Furthermore, pieces are designed in the spirit of Hokusai and Japanese warriors. Elegant evening dresses are adorned with theater gold. Intricately crafted belts accompany trousers and handbags are decorated with Kabuki masks.
Designer Kansaï Yakamoto is honored in the collection for paving the way for a generation of talented Japanese designers by presenting his work at a fashion show in Paris. He has experience in designing most of singer David Bowie’s costumes, and icons, symbols and characters for Louis Vuitton bags and accessories.
