Bringing a legacy rich in wellness to India, French brand Jean-Claude Biguine offers a variety of services to the ever so stylish Mumbaiite. We bring you a first-hand experience report of the newly-opened Colaba outlet of Jean-Claude Biguine Salon & Spa.
Adding to Mumbai’s already classy flavour is some Parisian style and glamour. Trying to raise the bar with 25 years of French legacy, Jean-Claude Biguine now has five salons and spas in Mumbai with the Colaba outlet being the most recent. The calm milieu of the Colaba outlet blends well with the over ecstatic Biguine team, which is all set to offer its beauty services to the well-heeled ladies of Mumbai, and some men too.
Big is better
True to common belief, Indians live life ‘king size’ and Jean Claude Biguine stays true to at least that Indian characteristic. Taking a quick look around the place, my eye appreciated the open and enormous 2,000 sq ft of space in the heart of Colaba with a classy white décor which had an immediate calming effect. A few steps further and you will appreciate the aura of luxury and elegance created with bright lights and catchy music.
Right from hairstyling to their signature spa treatments, the stylist shared that Jean Claude Biguine tried their best to amalgamate every beauty need under one roof. Their famed treatments include body massages, body wraps, anti-ageing facials and treatments which are all administered under professional know-how. Impressive to note that all the products used are 100 per cent natural and organic, thereby assuring your skin the very best. Jean-Claude Biguine has its own Biguine Bio range of products manufactured to give a healthy glow to your skin and I was introduced to their advantages firsthand.
A class apart
Biguine creates a symphony of styling, revitalizing, rejuvenation and pampering through dedicated spaces in all their outlets. Take a few moments and explore the Biguine Colour Bar, the hair-wash massage stations, manicure and pedicure sections, two spacious spa rooms (don’t miss the waterfall inside) with shower facilities and a Kerastase hair room. Notice the gorgeous chandelier slyly lighting the ceiling which immediately adds a tasteful and lavish feel to the salon – a complete hit with the fairer sex. Keep up with the seemingly well informed Biguine stylists, who may not appear too warm at first, but you will learn to overlook that once you see the final output of your selected service.
From the start
As you settle down in front of one of the numerous mirrors at your ‘station’ (as they call it), your stylist will help you slip into a white Biguine robe. After a brief tête-à-tête with your stylist in considerably loud decibels, make your way to the hair wash station. While your tresses get cleansed, you get massaged with an inbuilt massager on your chair - fancy and well appreciated because otherwise the neck and back suffer at the expense of a hair wash on those stiff chairs and wash basins!
Tress me up
Skin deep beauty is and will always be the most important for any season and the New Year eve is no exception. The 25 minute quick back massage is a blessing in disguise for those who are pressed for time while the Biguine Bio Pedicure is the most ideal and pleasing pedicure I’ve ever had. Comfortable cleansing, perfect pressured massage and a soothing moisturizer do your feet a lot of good. Finish off the manicure and pedicure with a French polish and you are set to hit the club! Apart from beautifully healthy and glowing skin, show your tresses some care this party season. Try the Signature Kerathermie ritual for hair.
The Colaba outlet boasts to have created a beautiful glass room for hair spa treatments. This special Kerastase room has been designed to isolate you from the chaos outside while you enjoy the calming effect of the treatment. Depending upon your hair requirements based on an extensive consultation by your therapist, Biguine offers four rituals - Reconstructing, Strengthening, Volumising and Age Resist Firming ritual.
These rituals at Jean-Claude Biguine, which can go on from 10 minutes to two hours, are a complete luxury experience. With all the wear and tear that our hair faces in the city, this treatment was a blessing! Comprising a monodose of the appropriate therapy, an overall heat ironing to trap the nutrients in the hair and a stress busting head massage with a hair mask that doubled up as a conditioner for my hair, the two hours passed quite fast.
The stylist finished off the treatment with an impeccable blow dry. The result? Soft and supple hair and I promise that you will not want to stop touching your hair. I would recommend the treatment to anyone with the subtlest of hair problems because this treatment is more of a treat to the tresses than a remedy. For a more compact version, try the Express Ritual which lasts for about an hour and leaves your hair feeling equally good.
The big bad BUT
With the party season right around the corner, this Parisian brand is like a boon. But wait a second. If you are a lover of personal space and appreciate soft tones and whispers, this is not a place for you. Your neighbours at the same table getting a haircut are about an arm’s length from you. Over the buzz of your many neighbours’ conversations and the roar of the hairdryers, make sure you convey to your stylist what exactly you desire. Pass your time eavesdropping to the other stylist’s conversation with his/her client or pour your head into the number of various magazines they have, the choice is yours. Also, be sure to have a lot of time on your hands before and after the appointment because a one hour treatment almost always spreads into half hour extra attributed to the friendly and talkative nature of the stylists.
All in all, visit Biguine for a classy and polished service but be prepared to shell out a few extra bucks. It will do you some good to learn to pronounce Biguine correctly, so brush up those French skills and make an appointment!
