Glenmorangie Signet named Highland Malt of the Year
March 24, 2011: Passing through rigorous blind tasting tests by a global panel of experts, Glenmorangie Signet has been crowned the Highland Malt of the year at the Whisky Magazine 2011 Awards.
The judges at the World Whisky Awards, regarded as the Oscars of the industry, liked the rich and regal finish of Signet. It has been created from a secret combination of the oldest and rarest Glenmorangie whiskies using high roasted ‘chocolate’ malted barley. The single malt is deepest amber in colour and delivers notes of cocoa, mocha, plum pudding, and baked apricots.
We can credit the intense taste of Signet to Dr Bill Lumsden, who was recently given an outstanding achievement award by the International Wine and Spirit Competition for his work as a pioneer of wood management and cask selection. The sublime flavour and rich velvet texture of Signet comes from its maturation in the most exclusive casks.
A visibly proud Dr Lumsden, Head of Distilling and Whisky Creation at The Glenmorangie Company, said, “We’re thrilled that the prestigious Whisky Magazine Icons Awards has crowned Signet as the Highland Malt of the Year. Signet now stands as an icon in its own right having beaten off stiff competition from all over the world.”
