Traditional Indian footwear gets a makeover with embellishments and motifs
October 30, 2020: This Diwali, Indian designers Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla collaborated with NeedleDust for a festive collection, which merges Abu Sandeep’s iconic and classic embroideries with NeedleDust style.
The illustrious collaboration introduces four intricately crafted juttis and two extraordinary new mules, finished with exquisitely handcrafted metallic embellishments and sparkling sequins, add a refreshing and glamorous touch to the upcoming season.
Aztec patterns and strong geometric motifs, that have now become synonymous with the designer duo's eponymous brand, dominate the juttis and mules. The motifs are fluid and are entwined with weaves and mix-embroidery. The meticulously crafted footwear features shimmering crystals. Beads and sequins giving a futuristic and contemporary aesthetic.
The eclectic collection has a unique mix of bright hues of red and fuschia, balanced with metallic shades of gold, silver and champagne. The collection will showcase two new, chic styles for mules - the square toe mule and the arrowhead.
When asked about the inspiration of the collection, Shirin Mann Sangha, Founder and Creative Director of Needledust, said, “Considering how hard the year has been for everyone, our sole quest in launching the collection in the midst of the pandemic, was to bring hope and cheer back in people’s lives in our own little way. It's about celebrating the little things, adding cheer to the season and creating our own little silver lining! It is exuberant and lush, it's got pop colours and glam tones, it's really embracing the hand we've been dealt and making it brighter.”

Needledust is ‘Born of India’ and is the first footwear label to ‘reinvent and redesign’ juttis which are handcrafted and hand-sewed by India’s finest artisans. Worn by celebrities, Needledust had created special Mehendi tokens for actors Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh's wedding at Lake Como. Priyanka Chopra was styled in Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla X Needledust juttis for her Mehendi function.
