Chicago's Le Colonial opens on E. Oak Street
March 4, 2019: Celebrating an exciting evolution in the establishment's 22-year journey, Chicago’s iconic Le Colonial restaurant has opened up at its new address at the luxurious E. Oak Street.
Le Colonial channels the seductive spirit and vivid flavors of 1920's French Colonial Southeast Asia. And its new home reveals an updated menu by Executive Chef/Partner Quoc Luong, stunning interiors by the award-winning Architect Mark Knauer and warm hospitality guided by Director of Operations/Wine Director Valerie Cao and the restaurant's first and only Maître d'/Partner Rafael Lopez.
Guests will fondly recognize and enjoy newly envisioned items such as Cha Gio, crispy shrimp and pork roll with gulf Shrimp, pork, Asian mushrooms, mint, cilantro and chili lime sauce; Goi Ga, Vietnamese chicken and cabbage salad with lemongrass and ginger poached chicken breast, cabbage, grapefruit, toasted peanut, srispy shallots and sweet chili garlic vinaigrette; and Bo Luc Lac, shaking beef featuring Valverdi Farm greens, caramelized filet mignon, sweet onions, watercress and lime pepper vinaigrette. Le Colonial's full bar features an array of classic, contemporary and original cocktail creations.
Perched above revered fine retailers Van Cleef & Arpels and Chanel, Le Colonial features 6,000 square feet of four distinct and colorful spaces, including an idyllic dining room and an all-season porch; an expansive bar and lounge; and the Monkey Parlour, a private and special chef's tasting room.
Critically acclaimed Swedish muralist Jonas Wickman has filled the space with phenomenal artistic touches, creating original, contemporary murals and paintings based on themes that update the restaurant's Colonial Vietnamese architecture. Le Colonial's environment is made complete with dozens of black and white photographs, many of them oversized, procured from the family album of the governor of 1920's Indochina.
