Chanel launches new flagship store in Bond Street, London

Chanel flagship store in Bond Street, LondonJune 24, 2013: Luxury brand Chanel has opened a new London flagship boutique at 158-159 New Bond Street, in the heart of Mayfair. This 12,600 square-foot boutique showcases ready-to-wear, handbags, shoes and costume jewellery. The boutique also houses a selection of watches and fine jewellery as well as fragrance and beauty.

The interior has been conceived by New York based architect Peter Marino, who has embraced the inherent elegance, audacity and refinement of the legendary House with a timeless panache to create an exclusive and glamorous environment.

The three floor space, which is articulated around a central atrium, uses materials such as soft gold and bronze and reflective surfaces like glass, marble, lacquer and mirror-glass, while intriguing textures contrast the highly polished and architectural with the artisanal. Each floor comprises of a series of intimate areas with specially commissioned artworks and both contemporary and antique furniture feature throughout.

From the second floor, one can enjoy a bird’s eye view of the atrium through which cascades a giant, twisting ‘pearl-necklace’ sculpture by French artist, Jean-Michel Othoniel. The area is conceived as a gallery space with fine oils, rare prints, and sculpture on display and features antique Chinese carpets, consoles and burgundy lacquer walls reminiscent of Mademoiselle Chanel’s Rue Cambon apartment.
