Capella Hotel and Resort’s first venture in Australia, Capella Sydney, invites guests for a captivating cultural immersion.
March 23, 2023: Merging lush facilities with a sleek contemporary design, Capella Sydney, located in the city’s Sandstone Precinct, opened on March 15. Set in the heart of the cosmopolitan city, just moments from Circular Quay, the Opera House and Harbour Bridge, it showcases Australia at its finest.
Housed within the Department of Education building, one of the city’s most beautiful buildings, originally designed in the 1900s by architect George McRae, the hotel saw a seven-year restoration and renovation process. The awe-inspiring modern designs and architecture is reimagined by Pontiac Land.
Opening Capella’s first property in Australia, Cristiano Rinaldi, President of Capella Hotel Group, said, “The opening of Capella Sydney is a milestone moment in the company’s global expansion.” He adds, “This launch represents a significant opportunity for Capella to showcase its refined and curated offerings to Sydney and its visitors, and we look forward to amplifying the stories, culture and experiences of the city through a uniquely Capella lens.”
Accommodations and setting are grand and elegant with 192 beautifully appointed guest rooms and suites spanned across nine levels. Offering a unique opulence, the rooms are equipped with deluxe textiles, standalone tubs and Frette linen, carrying a custom pantone and a bespoke collection of vegan, sustainable in-room amenities, all designed by Haeckles. The hotel also offers two dining experiences, the landmark restaurant Brasserie 1930 and McRae Bar.
The interior of the hotel is enhanced with a collection of acquired and commissioned art, including works from Australian artists Judy Watson, Otis Hope Carey, Elise Cakebread and Georgia Bisley, while facilities such as rejuvenating treatments at Auriga Spa or a swim in the 20-meter heated indoor pool, offer guests an exclusive escape into a lush world.
To celebrate the opening, Capella Sydney is offering a unique two-hour storytelling tour of a bygone era to the guests as a part of the Capella History Journey which includes overnight accommodation in a deluxe guestroom for two guests priced at AUD $1500 and the offer is valid until June 30, 2023. Guests who join the walking tour, which travels from the hotel to the laneways of The Rocks, will hear fascinating stories about the history of the Department of Education building, now Capella Sydney, the Sandstone Precinct in which it resides, and the culture, crime and convicts that shaped the city.
