Breguet acquires an antique chronograph it produced for Bugatti

Breguet chronograph for BugattiMarch 10, 2016: Fine watchmaker, Breguet, has acquired an exceptional dashboard chronograph, which it created for Bugatti almost a century ago.

Dashboard chronograph No. 2023, which Breguet originally sold to the luxury carmaker in 1932, came back to the Maison on the closing auction of the Paris Retromobile Exhibition that took place in early February 2016.

Belonging to a special series of nine timepieces designed for Bugatti, it flaunts a 67mm chrome-plated metal case that houses a car-industry appropriate complication – a tachymeter scale. Powered by a mechanical movement with a power reserve of eight days, the chronometer also features the signature blue-steel Breguet hands and a cumulative minutes counter at 6 o’clock.

Produced in the interwar period, the exquisite timepiece cues to the diverse range of watches Breguet has designed for a string of industries – from the navy to aeronautic companies to car manufacturers.
Many of Breguet’s antique creations are on display at its museum in Paris, where dashboard chronograph No. 2023 is to now a delight the public.
