While the dark clouds loom above us, we hunted for bright lipstick shades to make us happy with a pop of colour on these dull days. So what if the sky is grey? We reviewed two shades from Bobbi Brown, because we know, love and admire her prowess to easily make women look good, and two glosses from MAC, and tell you why we like them.
The art stick range from Bobbi Brown is becoming quite the rage with women world over. Looking like a chubby pencil with the power of a matte lipstick, glide this baby on and take it for a test drive. A walk in the park with your romantic half, a movie night out with your girls or even perfect for that pick me up when you need it, the sunset orange shade is your best bet when you need it. Not the usual corals that you see around every corner today, this is an actual sunset orange, literally.
Creamy texture and effortless application makes this product one of my favourites and always in my bag when I need a quick fix. Perfect for fair and medium skin tones, I found it easy to define my lips and add a creamy sheen with the perfect amount of colour on my lips. The packaging is fuss free, but in a pencil form, and has a sharpener included in the black cardboard box. It wore for about five hours on me and came out to quite an extent after I had a meal. Easy to remove with baby oil or a mild cleanser, it leaves no stains and doesn't stretch on the lips. Due to its matte and somewhat powdery texture, I found it to sit a little in the dry areas of my lips but this is solved with a simple balm about half hour prior to application. I personally love all the pigment it gives - it's a dream for those with pigmented lips.
With my continuous love for bright pinks, it is no surprise that Pink Lily from Bobbi's creamy matte lip collection makes it to my list. A bright fuchsia that definitely brightens up my day, pink lily demands just the perfect amount of attention, love and gaze, but keep the remainder of your face simple, let your lips do all the talking. Perfectly pigmented and effortless, all it takes is one swipe and one pout. The effect is matte but won't dry out your lips. I would classify it as a creamy lip shade that moistened my lips even though I wore it the entire day. What I don't like is the flat tip of the lipstick instead of a slanted one, so I use a lip brush for more precision, but otherwise keep a q tip handy to just clean out the extra lipstick. It lasts for about seven hours with one meal and then I found it to start fading out.
MAC has started to make many girls happy, especially me, by associating with movies, popstars and comics. So when they collaborated with Disney’s Maleficent, I couldn’t wait to try out the range. The Anthurium Pro Longwear Lipglass is a new limited edition shade inspired by Angelina Jolie’s perfect power pout. Literally a clean bright red, the lipgloss could just end your never ending search for that perfect red. It’s vibrant, warm-toned, cherry red with a glossy, creamy finish. No shimmer or shine, just powerful colour. One swipe gives just the apt amount of colour but can be built up for a more dramatic look. I did find it a little thicker and slightly sticky compared to other glosses, but its durability erases any doubts that may come to mind. It didn’t dry out my lips or enhance my lines and neither did it bleed outside my lip. It wore for about five hours on me with a meal and left a slight stain which didn’t look too bad. Perfect for a day when you want to make a statement at work or a romantic night out, this red is a cheery cherry!
Yes, another pink but not JUST another pink. MAC's Galaxy Rose lipgloss is a medium toned raspberry pink which doesn’t really need an occasion to don. This isn’t as sticky as the Maleficient red, but will stay on while you dance, sing and make merry (lasted for four hours). With warm undertones, it gives a medium coverage to your lips, so that’s exactly why I said - no special occasion needed. A fun, feminine and innocently flirty lipgloss, I would recommend this to every girl looking to reconnect with their feminine side. Again, no shimmer or shine, it just adds a hint of colour when you most need it. The application is simple and fuss free - expected from MAC - and the doe foot applicator picks up enough product to cover the lips in a sheer wash of even colour.
