A dash of glam here and some fresh colour there. A perfect key to bidding farewell to the year and welcoming the new one, this article has it all!

Looking one’s finest has always been imperative to all but the same tricks never work for everyone. Highlighting one’s best features while covering up the flaws has always been an art which many have wished to conquer but only a few have succeeded. “People will look at you and form an impression of you instantly, be it your clothes, skin, speech and of course your hair. It is part of who you are, so it is best to make sure it is well looked after and looks fantastic 24/7. Don’t try too hard to be anything other than true to yourself. Be yourself, stop trying to be anything other than you! You are perfect, you are beautiful,” says Mr Rod Anker who has recently launched his salon at The Claridges Surajkund, Delhi NCR. Taking a leaf out of his book, let’s pull out our beauty books and get set to glam up the party season!

Look into the future
A sneak peek into the trends for coming year should definitely prep us up. “2012 is all about dewy skin with a gentle rose blush, pastel shades of lipstick and lip-gloss inspired by a blooming rose garden on a beautiful spring day,” says Mr Stafford Braganza, Head Makeup Artist for Lancôme India. A head’s up for those colour lovers, this Spring/Summer calls for stunning tangerines and lots of pastel colours including soft green glosses. So bring out those stunners!

Your look isn’t complete without perfect hair, so ask Mr Anker and in 2012 he foresees more people taking an individual approach to their hair, and thus a lot more varied looks appearing. “After all hair is like a dress. No one wants to wear the same outfit year after year right?” he said. If you genuinely want to make a statement, then Mr Anker recommends the Tonal Fusion hair treatment which is unique to rodanker Salon and works closely on the existing tone and depth of your hair and creates a new tone and hue on your hair without giving it a ‘Just coloured look’. “This technique is tailor-made to each person and is not a ‘one size fits all’ colour. You will have heads turning from here to Mumbai!” he said. Definitely something for the experimental, I’d say!

Hair colour has been big in the fashion world for the past decade and has certainly hit the scene here in India while growing from strength to strength. “It will continue to grow and develop through 2012. Colours and shades will not be as focused on as one size does not fit all when it comes to colouring hair. Everyone has different skin tone and needs when it comes to hair and the look they are after. So it is quite a personalised process - enjoy it!” said Mr Anker. He also put a lot of importance on technique and insisted that it is as important as the colour selection itself so he recommends getting a professional to do your tresses.

Time to glam up
Interested in making heads turn? The festive season is your official excuse to impress! Ms Carole Robequin, Senior Manager, Training and Creative at Jean-Claude Biguine, says, “Looks for this Christmas are all about glamorous up-dos along with fancy hair accessories. Opt for a neat look and let the accessories do the talking. This could include hair bands or elaborate hair clips thereby adding a touch of retro to your Christmas look. Pick accessories that define your personality, making a statement for that fabulous outing with friends and family”.

With the dawn of the new year, why don’t you give yourself a new look too? Go for a haircut or play with hair colours. “Highlights or low lights can add that glamour to the way your hair looks. Opt for luscious, voluminous curls, working around the texture of your hair. Layers, curls and other fun, different looks is what you should be sporting in the New Year. The New Year is about ‘new’ looks so make sure you make a bold statement,” advises Ms Robequin.

Whatever you do, it is essential that your makeup compliments your look. For all those glam divas, Mr Stafford advises to keep it soft, and remember that glitter and shimmer is an accessory, not a necessity this festive season! “As always remember that less is more!” he said.

Coming to your hair, remember to have fun and don’t worry about your hair too much unless it is a formal event, of course. “At the end of the day it needs to be an extension of your personality. Undone hair is better than overdone hair! No one likes to see hair that has just been taken out of rollers!” says Mr Anker.

All in all, wear it up, dress it out and dramatize because this party season is welcoming you with open arms!
