Winters mean a hot cuppa tea. And if that can be coupled with some unique experiences, who’ll mind? We list some of our favourite afternoon teas!
Each country has its own culture, some of which we take in an exotic way, while adopting the others as a way of life. The English tradition of afternoon teas has also garnered much interest and experimentation!
Dainty little tea cups, chocolate filled scones, pink cupcakes, all arranged and prepared with a unique theme. Easy to feast your eyes on, these beautifully adorned afternoon teas will satisfy your souls too! We list some of our favourite ones, not just from the home ground of London, but also from luxurious properties elsewhere…
When Jimmy Choo beckons
Stilettos, classy handbags and sparkling accessories – that’s what Mandarin Oriental, Munich is offering in its afternoon tea in collaboration with the luxury fashion brand Jimmy Choo! Available till February 28, 2014, the chefs have created a range of treats, such as Chocolate Raspberry Macaroons, Jimmy Choo Handbags filled with chocolate, Cucumber and cream Cheese and Grapefruit Lemon and Caviar Shooters which are sure to win the hearts of every fashionista. The Afternoon Tea is served with Jing Tea and guests can select from Assam, Organic Green Tea, Lemongrass & Ginger just to name a few. And taking this glamourous feast further, all guests who book the tea receive a complimentary gift set from Jimmy Choo!
Detoxing with tea
Located in the heart of Mayfair, one of London's prime locations, Rocco Forte’s Brown's Hotel has a fascinating history and has hosted many distinguished guests since it opened as London’s first hotel in 1837. The hotel, a member of The Leading Hotels of the World (LHW), offers a low-calorie Tea Tox, a healthier version of the traditional afternoon tea. This detox version includes healthy canapes instead of sandwiches, fruit skewers instead of scones and a selection of sugar free pastries. Their Prestige seasonal tea library presents a selection of teas from boutique tea gardens, which have been specially selected by tea traders, Lalani & Co. These teas are served from a specially commissioned ceramic teapot into a Riedel glass, rather than a tea cup!
Not forgetting the younger members of your family, take them for the Teddy Bear Tea at Mary Cassatt Tea Room at The Rittenhouse in Philadelphia, US. Soon to become an annual tradition, The Rittenhouse invites its youngest patrons and their treasured teddies for a leisurely afternoon tea service featuring sweet and savory petit fours and delicious teddy bear cookies. Each child will also receive a complimentary teddy bear to take home. Only available till December 31, 2013 for now, make sure you make your kiddies experience this special treat once this year!
Mixing with Thai
Stylish yet traditional, check into Rayavadee in Krabi, Thailand, which is only accessed by a speedboat. The resort is surrounded on three sides by glorious sand beaches, and lush jungle greenery, imbuing a sense of tropical relaxation. Then imagine yourself sipping on a calming tea in this LHW property, in the middle of so much beauty. The resort arranges a beautiful afternoon tea set up three times a week at the Raya Lounge, which allows guests to relax in a traditional and luxurious Thai inspired décor, and just a stone’s throw from the Andaman Sea. Apart from busying your hands on unique little dishes, tea time is accompanied by a variety of activities such as Thai flower garland weaving, Thai hand massage with spa therapists and a Thai cookery demonstration, in true Thai fashion!
Known in the 1960s for attracting fashionable people, Le Bristol Paris has now resurrected that image by offering "Fashion Saturdays". The concept is simple and chic: fashion with tea on Saturday afternoons! Watch an array of models walk between the tables as you enjoy a delicious English tea, a glass of champagne, a selection of pastries and finger sandwiches. For each occasion, Pastry Chef Laurent Jeannin creates a unique dessert inspired by the designer’s style. Large fashion houses such as Céline, Yves Saint-Laurent, Givenchy, Chloé, Ralph Lauren, Stella McCartney and Ungaro have presented their collections at Le Bristol.
