Ritu Kumar launches its largest flagship store in Mumbai

Ritu Kumar flagship store Mumbai

October 26, 2015: Indian designer Ritu Kumar has launched her largest flagship store in South Mumbai at Kalaghoda, the art district cum retail hub of the city.

The new store is expansive with specialised attention given to reviving and bringing back focus to Palampores or Kalamkaris, which were all the rage in 17th century Europe. Mrs Kumar has worked on recreating these wall to floor prints over the last six months, in order to add an element of history and magical appeal to this new store.

The Palampore designs have been sourced from across the world, painstakingly recreated or restored with the help of the digital renderings and have been replicated and mounted in the Kala Ghoda store to create a reminiscence of one of the most glorious schools of textile creation. The decor is anchored around the 'Chintz' textile trade of India to the East India company.

Spread over 2,300 sq feet, this new Ritu Kumar store is a veritable museum of India’s rich textile history. It houses the designer’s bridal collections, Indian formal-wear as well as the pret brand, Label.
